Xia politics incorporated one sovereign leader or emperor that claimed full power. The Xia had a total of 17 emperors beginning with I son of Yu the great and ending with Jie. The emperor ruled from their capital of Yangcheng with full authority. The government type of the Xia Dynasty was a monarchy. The core of their economy was heavily based upon agriculture like many civilizations of this time period. The Xia were slave owning people and were the first slave owning society in all of Chinese history. Slavery would continue to show up in Chinese history for hundreds of years and through many dynasties to come.
